First responders plan emergency drills on August 20

Exercise will simulate an aircraft incident with mock patients and "smoke"

The King County International Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Unit will be conducting two emergency drills on Wednesday, August 20. The first drill will be at 9:30 a.m., with the second planned for 1:30 p.m. The activities will last about an hour.

The drills will simulate a "hard landing" of an aircraft, using a partial mockup of a Boeing 737 fuselage. Multiple first responder agencies will be participating in the exercise, which will help their personnel train for and respond to real-life emergencies.

People on or near the airfield during the two drills may see a "damaged" aircraft, simulated smoke, emergency vehicles with lights and sirens, and mock "patients" being transported from the scene. Please refrain from calling 9-1-1 if you see emergency activities occurring during the designated drill times.

Airport users with questions or needing further information about this drill should contact Airport Operations at 206-296-7334 or AirportOps@kingcounty.gov.
