About the King County GIS Center
The King County GIS Center manages the county's enterprise geographic information system and produces the maps, apps, imagery, and open data that county agencies, regional partners, and the public rely on. We provide GIS leadership, coordination, infrastructure, and services that meet the business needs of King County government, the Puget Sound region, and beyond.
Most people encounter our work through King County mapping applications. When you look up a parcel, check flood risk, find your council district, or download a dataset from the county, you're using systems the GIS Center builds and maintains.

What we do
- Maintain the county's central geospatial database and the systems that deliver it
- Coordinate GIS activity, standards, and countywide software contracts across departments
- Build and maintain public mapping applications, including iMap and Parcel Viewer
- Publish GIS Open Data for public download and reuse
- Run the regional aerial imagery program. This is a cost sharing partnership that has acquired high resolution imagery for King County and participating local jurisdictions since 1998
- Provide GIS support to emergency response, public health, and other county operations
Awards and recognition
The GIS Center's work is regularly recognized at the national level. Below are several recent recognitions.
2025 - Esri Enterprise GIS Award
King County received the Esri Enterprise GIS Award at both the Esri CIO Summit and the Esri User Conference, recognizing more than three decades of building one of the most advanced enterprise GIS programs in the country.
2025 - GPN Exemplary Systems in Geospatial (ESIG) Award, Single Process Systems (Exemplary System)
Awarded by the Geospatial Professional Network for the King County AI-GIS-Strengthened SEPA Response Letter Generator, which combines GIS with generative AI to support health equity in environmental review.
2024 - GPN ESIG Award, Single Process Systems (Distinguished System)
Awarded for the Aerial Imagery Program web application, which replaced a manual, email-driven ordering process and saved more than one hundred hours of staff time across participating jurisdictions.
2024 - GPN ESIG Award, Enterprise Systems (Distinguished System)
Awarded for King County State of GIS.
2023 - URISA ESIG Award, Enterprise Systems
Awarded for King County's Smart Building Management System.
