Accepted at hazardous waste collection sites
- All containers must be 8 gallons or less
- Limit of 5 tanks per trip for any tank or cylinder under 2 feet in length
- Total waste limit: 50 gallons per trip
Propane tanks larger than 8 gallons can be returned to the manufacturer or to a Blue Rhino location.
Small gas canisters, such as camping canisters, can go in the garbage if they are empty. Empty or partially filled tanks, 8 gallons or less, can be taken to a household hazardous waste facility. King County Solid Waste transfer stations do not accept propane tanks of any size.
