May 13, 2026 – Bike Everywhere Day

Location: North end of the East Lake Sammamish Trail near Whole Foods, Redmond, WA

Event summary:

The project’s outreach team hosted a station for Cascade Bicycle Club’s Bike Everywhere Day. About 25 people stopped by on a rainy morning to learn about the project. The project's outreach team shared project information, responded to questions, and documented feedback. Common questions and feedback from community members included:

• How important the trail is for commuting, connecting to public transit, and recreation
• Potential construction impacts, such as trail detours and signage
• Where the new pipe will go
• Wastewater treatment process and system capacity

The team also provided project materials, including a postcard and project brochure, for people to take home and learn more. These materials were offered in English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian.

April 14, 2026 – Friends of the East Lake Sammamish Trail Briefing

Briefing summary:

The project’s outreach team reached out to the Friends of the East Lake Sammamish Trail (Friends of the ELST) to:

• Offer a project briefing
• Receive feedback on the project
• Understand ways to connect with trail users

The project’s outreach team lead discussed the project with the Friends of the ELST volunteer lead. We shared information about the project corridor location, how people and groups can provide feedback, and what comes next. We explained that it is too early to know where the pipe will transition from the parkway to the trail. We noted that at the end of the project’s design phase, the project team will better understand where the pipe will go and the types of construction methods.  We encouraged community members to sign up for project updates and share their feedback. We will provide advance notice about any impacts once details are known.

Friends of the ELST shared their questions, feedback, and concerns related to the project, including:

• Concerns about potential impacts to the East Lake Sammamish Trail. The trail is now fully paved and gets a lot of commuter and recreational use.
• Question about whether the Marymoor Connector Trail will be affected.
• Request to understand how we use community feedback.
• Comment that some Friends of the ELST members may be interested in walking the potentially affected trail area.
• Comment that Friends of the ELST can share information about the project on their Facebook page.

April 2, 2026 – Lake Washington School District Briefing

Date: Thursday, April 2, 2026
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Briefing summary:

The project’s outreach team reached out to the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) to:

• Offer a project briefing
• Receive feedback on the project
• Understand ways to connect with the LWSD, including schools and families

The project’s outreach team discussed the project with three LWSD transportation leaders. We shared information about the project corridor location, how people and groups can provide feedback, and what comes next. We encouraged community members to sign up for project updates and share their feedback. We will provide advance notice about any impacts once details are known.

LWSD shared their questions, feedback, and concerns related to the project, including:

• Concerns about impacts to school bus routes in the project area. LWSD shared the current bus route schedules with the project team.
• Request that flaggers promptly let school buses through work zones. This will reduce congestion at school pick up/drop off.
• Questions about contracting, permits, and formal comment period timelines
• Questions about construction schedule and construction methods.
• Request for as much advance notice as possible for survey and construction work schedules. Advance notice helps LWSD plan their school bus routes.
• School pick up and drop offs are quick and busy.
• Students drive from all over the area to attend some of their schools.
• Construction in the project corridor could cause more traffic on 228th Avenue Northeast.
• LWSD recommended other non-LWSD schools in the area to connect with.
• LWSD planned to share this information with its communications team.
• Request for update meeting before school starts back up in fall.

The project’s outreach team reached out to Cascade Bicycle Club (Cascade) to:

• Offer a project briefing
• Receive feedback on the project
• Understand ways to connect with cyclists in the area

The project’s outreach team met with Cascade Bicycle Club’s Deputy Director and Leafline Coalition Officer to discuss the project. We shared information about the project corridor location, how community members can provide feedback, and what comes next. We noted that it is too early to know where the pipe will transition from the parkway to the trail. At the end of the project’s design phase, the project team will better understand where the pipe will go and the types of construction methods. We encouraged Cascade members to sign up for project updates and share their feedback. We will provide advance notice about any impacts, once details are known.

Cascade shared their questions, feedback, and concerns related to the project, including:

• Concerns about potential impacts to the East Lake Sammamish Trail. The trail was recently paved and has significant commuter use.
• Questions about the schedule for survey work and construction impacts.
• Request that the project team consider partial or phased work to reduce trail impacts.
• Request to provide updates about whether community feedback could be incorporated and why.
• Cascade recommended other local groups to connect with and cycling events in the area. 
• Cascade recommended posting project information on social media.
• Request to send emails about field work involving potential trail impacts to Deputy Director.
