CACLEO membership

CACLEO offers input on law enforcement policies and procedures. It advises the Sheriff's Office and King County Council on equity and social justice in policing. 


The committee includes up to 11 members who represent the diversity of the Sheriff's Office service area.​

Why Join?

Join CACLEO to shape OLEO and Sheriff's Office policies, collaborate with passionate community members, gain experience in policy and community engagement, and drive meaningful change for equity and justice. 

Key Duties, Term and Time Commitment

Member's are expected to:

  • Serve as liaisons between OLEO and communities they serve.
  • Offer input on law enforcement policies and procedures based on personal experience, community feedback and knowledge attained through service on CACLEO.
  • Provide the public with the resources to report alleged police misconduct. 
  • Conduct outreach to communities served by the Sheriff's Office. 
  • Advise the Sheriff's Office and the King County Council on equity and social justice in policing including opportunities to reduce criminal legal system involvement, decrease recidivism, abate inequities, and enhance fairness in the criminal legal system. 

Time Commitment

Terms are three years. Members may be re-appointed for one additional term. 

CACLEO members can expect a time commitment of about four to six hours per month. Meeting cadence is once a month. 

Application Process

We are currently looking for new members to join the Community Advisory Committee for Law Enforcement Oversight!

If you are interested in joining:

The CACLEO staff liaison will schedule time to speak by phone once an application is submitted. OLEO's director will then review your application and send it to the County Boards and Commissions liaison for consideration.
