Steps to get a septic system rebate

  • Check eligibility

Confirm your property is eligible for a septic maintenance rebate by adding your address to the map.

  • Apply for the septic maintenance rebate

If your property is eligible, then apply for the septic maintenance rebate.

If your property is within King County, but outside of Vashon-Maury Island and the Poverty Bay Shellfish Protection District, then you will need to self-verify on the application form that your annual household income is at or below 80% of the area median income. This income limitation does not apply to properties within the Poverty Bay Shellfish Protection District or on Vashon-Maury Island.

  • Rebate voucher number sent to you

Once your eligibility is confirmed, we will then send you your rebate voucher number.

You will give this rebate voucher number to the King County certified septic maintainer or King County certified septic pumper you hire to do the maintenance work.

You will have 3 months to complete the septic system maintenance work from the date the voucher number was issued.

  • Hire a contractor

Hire a contractor from this list of King County certified septic system maintainers or King County certified septic pumpers.

We encourage you to get bids from at least 3 contractors.

  • The maintenance work is performed

The King County certified septic system maintainer or pumper performs maintenance on your septic system.
  • Pay the cost of the maintenance

You will pay for the cost of the septic maintenance, MINUS the cost of eligible maintenance activities (up to $500). You’ll provide the maintainer or pumper you hire the rebate voucher number you received.

  • Application for reimbursement is submitted

The King County certified septic maintainer or pumper submits their invoice, a completed King County Substitute W-9 form (if not previously shared with King County), a copy of the maintenance report, and this short septic system rebate application to picrebates@kingcounty.gov to receive reimbursement for the qualifying rebate amount.

  • Reimbursement

We will reimburse your contractor for the qualifying rebate amount.
