FUSION of Federal Way receives King County funds to aid homeless families

The 2012 King County Budget, adopted by the Metropolitan King County Council on November 9, included a special, one-time $20,000 grant for FUSION, a Federal Way foundation that provides housing and counseling for homeless families.

“In economic times such as these, the work that FUSION does for our community is needed more than ever before,” said Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer. “This grant is a recognition of the importance of FUSION in maintaining the fabric of the South King County community.”

The non-profit has provided housing and counseling for homeless families since 1993, beginning with the efforts of Peggy LaPorte and several community members to meet a serious need. Struggling families selected through Catholic Community Services establish goals to reach self-sufficiency with regular assistance from a case manager.

“At a time of increasing need and tighter public and private budgets, this is a positive and cost-effective use of funds; moreover it recognizes those volunteers whose tireless efforts have made FUSION a success,” stated von Reichbauer.
