Open house planned for Taxiway B Relocation Project's draft Environmental Assessment scope
Event is April 15; comments due by May 15
King County International Airport-Boeing Field (KCIA or Airport), through the King County Department of Executive Services (Airport Sponsor), and in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), intends to undertake a variety of project improvements to meet current FAA safety and design standards at the Airport. Project improvements include rehabilitating Runway 14R/32L and relocating Taxiway B approximately 50 to 75 feet to the west. Other project components include, but are not limited to:
- Demolition and removal of pavement
- Demolition and relocation of the airport traffic control tower (ATCT) and aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) buildings
- Land acquisition
- Other support project components, such as stormwater facilities and fence construction
Pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and FAA Order 1050.1G, a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) will be prepared for these project improvements. The Draft EA will describe the project improvements and the impacts associated with the implementation of the project improvements on environmental resource categories outlined in FAA Order 1050.1G.
The Airport Sponsor is holding a scoping open house for the public and agencies to provide input regarding the issues to be addressed in the Draft EA. This open house will describe the general characteristics of the project improvements and identify the environmental resource categories to be analyzed in the Draft EA. This meeting, along with the 30-day comment period, will constitute the scoping process for the Draft EA. If an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is required by the FAA, this meeting will serve as the scoping session for the EIS.
