Judge Yvonne Chin

Judge Yvonne Chin was unanimously appointed to the District Court by the King County Council in 2025. Judge Chin brings to the bench a deep commitment to public service, and draws on extensive and diverse legal experience to advance justice with fairness and respect for all.

Committed to equity and access to justice, Judge Chin was a dedicated civil legal aid and public interest attorney with the Sexual Violence Law Center and the ACLU of Washington. Her litigation background spanned civil, criminal, and administrative law, encompassing civil rights, constitutional rights, domestic violence and sexual violence, protection orders, family law, landlord-tenant law, defamation, personal injury, immigration, and the Public Records Act. Before joining District Court, Judge Chin served as a judge and magistrate pro tempore with the Seattle Municipal Court. As a civil litigator, she successfully represented clients in trial and appellate courts, and practiced in Washington, Illinois, and federal court.

Judge Chin holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a correlate in philosophy from Vassar College.
