Jan. 22, 2025: Nearly all of King County Solid Waste Division’s facilities remain open to the public while the agency takes action to address a backlog at transfer stations impacting commercial haulers.
News
King County’s Solid Waste Division is taking immediate action to address a backlog at transfer stations affecting commercial haulers while nearly all of its facilities remain open to the public.
The temporary service disruption for commercial haulers is the result of planned operational changes as the agency conducts a pilot project to transition to new, more efficient service hours.
Seattle and Milton are not in the Solid Waste Division’s service area and are not impacted. Residents in the service area are encouraged to check with their local solid waste collection company – Waste Management, Recology, Waste Connections, or Republic Services – to find out if there are service disruptions.
Commercial haulers have the option to temporarily use their own transfer stations or divert collected materials to King County’s Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley. The Solid Waste Division is pursuing other capacity options available in neighboring jurisdictions.
The Solid Waste Division – a division of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks – is continuing to coordinate with haulers.
