Lake to Sound Trail

The Lake to Sound Trail, once complete, will be a 16-mile non-motorized, multi-use recreational trail spanning from the south end of Lake Washington in Renton, all the way to the shoreline of Puget Sound in Des Moines.
Lake to Sound Segment C

Location:

2.2 miles connecting the south terminus of Segment B to the Des Moines Creek Trail at S. 200th St., roughly following the SR509 extension alignment.

Description:

This project was completed in 2025. It was funded by $13M WSDOT, $600K RCO Grant, and $2.2M Levy. It extends an important regional trail link. View segment map. This project was broken into phases by the cities. Phase 1 was in SeaTac and Phase 2 was in Burien. The 1.8-mile SeaTac segment was constructed by Active Construction, Inc. Construction was completed in September 2023, and the phase is now open for public use. This phase connects the Des Moines Creek Trail to 8th Ave. S. in SeaTac and includes boardwalks through natural areas, retaining walls, and enhanced crossings.

Phase 2 in Burien, a 0.4-mile extension of Phase 1 in SeaTac, was completed in June 2025. The construction contract had been awarded to SCI Infrastructure, LLC. This segment closes the gap along Des Moines Memorial Dr. between 8th Ave. S. and S. Normandy Rd. in Burien. The construction duration was 9 months. There is now 7 contiguous miles of the Lake to Sound Trail open for public use.
