An Executive Order REPEALING Executive Order PRE 7-1 (AEO), the Citizen Participation initiative for unincorporated King County due to the July 15, 2011 enactment of a County ordinance establishing a new framework for public engagement in unincorporated areas that is consistent with the public engagement goals in King County Strategic Plan.
WHEREAS, the County Council enacted on July 15, 2011 Ordinance 17139 establishing a framework for public engagement in unincorporated areas of King County; and
WHEREAS, the Council-adopted framework broadens the County's goals for public engagement with unincorporated communities as required by the King County Strategic Plan and expressly supersedes the public engagement guidelines delineated in executive order PRE-7-1; and
WHEREAS, the Strategic Plan's public engagement goals encourage King County to engage with a wide range of community based organizations such as community councils, community development associations, unincorporated area councils and other groups; and
WHEREAS, the engagement framework sets forth steps to improve community engagement and interaction with residents of unincorporated King County including development of clearly defined community service areas, development of inter-branch work programs supporting the service areas, and convening public meetings in the service areas; and
WHEREAS, the public engagement goals for Ordinance 17139 are more extensive and inclusive than those in Executive Order PRE 7-1 (AEO) and supports the "fair and just principle" embodied in the Strategic Plan and the County Equity and Social Justice Ordinance 16948.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dow Constantine, King County Executive, do hereby order and direct that Executive Order PRE 7-1 (AEO) be repealed.
Dated this 19th day of April, 2012
