Summary

An inmate, Daphney Justice, female, 51, in the custody of the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Harborview Medical Center at 01:35 PM. Justice was booked into the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) on September 26, 2008, and was transferred to Harborview on January 7, 2009, where she remained for one week until her death.

Story

An inmate, Daphney Justice, female, 51, in the custody of the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Harborview Medical Center at 01:35 PM. Justice was booked into the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) on September 26, 2008, and was transferred to Harborview on January 7, 2009, where she remained for one week until her death.

The cause and manner of death from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending. Public Health - Seattle & King County is seeking permission from family members to release further details of the inmate’s medical condition and history.

State law requires that the King County Medical Examiner conduct an autopsy on all in-custody deaths.As part of the standard review process for jail deaths, the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will be working with Public Health - Seattle & King County to conduct an investigation.
