Due to severe weather conditions and dangerous roads, many King County agencies are reporting closed operations on Tuesday:

Although King County government as a whole is still officially open, several departments or facilities affected by the weather conditions have announced closures and instructed staff to stay home. These agencies include:

• King County Council is closed
• District Court is closed
• Superior Court is closed
• Prosecuting Attorney's Office is closed
• Department of Judicial Administration is closed
• King County Elections is closed
• Department of Assessments is closed
• Contracting companies Allied Waste and Waste Management plan limited residential collections today. King County transfer stations will open at 8 a.m., but due to limited staffing will accept small volumes. Hazardous waste service dropoff will not be available in Factoria today.
• Regional Animal Services of King County will have limited shelter hours and field services. Call 206-296-PETS for information before visiting the Kent shelter.
• All King County Community Service Center locations are closed
• The Department of Development and Environmental Services (DDES) has rudimentary services available and cannot process transactions that require payment. DDES will close at 12 noon on Tuesday.
• Commercial garbage haulers have suspended collections for the day
• The Solid Waste Division will close all transfer stations at 3 p.m. except Bow Lake. Bow Lake will remain open 24 hours, as usual, serving Sea-Tac. Facilities will reopen on regular schedules Wednesday morning.

First responders and mission critical staff are expected to report to their work location as usual. This includes, but is not limited to, corrections officers, 9-1-1 call center operators, direct healthcare providers, emergency personnel, security staff, and certain senior managers.

King County residents may be able to obtain some services online, such as pet licensing, car tabs, marriage licenses by mail, property tax payments, business licensing and more.

Anyone seeking a service at a Public Health Center or other Public Health location today should call the facility number to find out the status of the roads and sidewalks and service availability before leaving home. King County Metro Transit will operate with buses on snow routes and some service cancellations on Tuesday morning, and is urging people to stay home and off the roads if at all possible. Road conditions are dangerously icy, and abandoned vehicles still block roadways. The King County Water Taxi to both West Seattle and Vashon Island are cancelled for Tuesday. About 14 Metro bus routes have been cancelled this morning due to the travel conditions, and a complete list of bus routes that are on snow routing or that have been cancelled is at: www.kingcounty.gov/metro/snow
