“Passport Day in the U.S.A.” cancelled due to possible federal government shutdown
Summary
The U.S. Department of State has cancelled Saturday’s planned “Passport Day in the U.S.A” due to the possibility of a federal government shutdown.
Story
The U.S. Department of State has cancelled Saturday's planned "Passport Day in the U.S.A" due to the possibility of a federal government shutdown. As a result, King County will not open two customer service centers for the event as was planned. King County can still accept passport applications during normal business hours, but they will not be processed until the U.S. State Department reopens.
"We're disappointed that we won't be able to provide passport services on Saturday," said Lorraine Patterson, Records and Licensing Services Director. "However, we hope that Congress will resolve the issues soon so that we can get back to helping King County residents with their passport applications."
Passport Day is an annual event intended to serve residents who may otherwise have a difficult time getting to a passport office during business hours in the work week. In previous years, King County accepted about 70 applications for passports at two Customer Service Center locations during the special Saturday event.
