Executive lauds career of State Senator Lisa Brown
Senate Majority Leader announnces she will not seek re-election
King County Executive Dow Constantine today lauded the career of Washington State Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, following her announcement that she will not seek re-election.
"The Legislature will greatly miss the intellect and compassion that Lisa Brown brought to her work.
"I had the honor of serving with her when I first came to the House in 1997, and later in 2001 as her vice-chair on the Senate Ways and Means Committee. In late 2000, at a West Seattle coffee shop, we sketched out the ideas for what became the state commission on tax reform, a means to open the conversation about fairness and stability in taxation.
"In the recent state budget fight Lisa's leadership was crucial in protecting K-12 and higher education, along with programs that aid our most vulnerable residents.
"Senator Brown's good work will resonate for years to come, in preserving our quality of life and fostering opportunities in education, infrastructure, and economic development. I commend Lisa for her many years of faithful service to the people of her district and all of Washington state, and wish her well in the future."
