New Vashon Rural Services Center to open February 20
Summary
Facility in downtown Vashon will house Sheriff's Office, District Court, Community Service Center, and permitting services
Story
Residents of Vashon and Maury Island will soon have a new location to access services provided by King County. The Vashon Rural Services Center, located at 10011 SW Bank Rd. in downtown Vashon, opens on February 20. The last day of operations at the old location on Vashon Highway Southwest will be February 19.
The Vashon Rural Services Center will be home to the King County Sheriff's Office, King County District Court, the Vashon Community Service Center, and services provided by the Department of Permitting and Environmental Review and the Community Service Area Program. The new center was made possible through a partnership between King County and Vashon Island Fire and Rescue (VIFR). King County paid for renovations to the VIFR Association Building in exchange for a long-term lease at favorable rates. VIFR will retain ownership of the building and will continue to use it on an as-needed basis. In addition, community groups will be able to work through VIFR to schedule the facility for community meetings or other events.
A public grand opening celebration at the Vashon Rural Services Center is planned for late March.
