Story

Adrienne_QuinnKing County Executive Dow Constantine today thanked the Metropolitan King County Council for confirming his appointee for director of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS). Adrienne Quinn has served in an acting capacity since November.

“Adrienne is highly respected, and brings an extraordinary blend of skills to help lead the transformation of our health and human services system into one that is integrated, focused on prevention, and provides resources where and when communities need them,” said Executive Constantine.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to join the King County Executive, King County Council, the dedicated staff of the Department, and our many community partners as we work together to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential,” said Quinn.

Quinn oversees a budget of approximately $350 million and a staff of 295 employees in three divisions – Community Services; Developmental Disabilities; and Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services.

Among the agency’s key initiatives are: continuing implementation of plans to end homelessness; enhancement of the coordination of services for veterans; and transformation of regional health and human services to achieve greater collaboration across systems, improve outcomes for individuals and families, and reduce disparities in health and well-being.

As executive director of the Medina Foundation in Seattle, Quinn led strategic initiatives to improve services for vulnerable populations, including homeless housing, domestic violence programs, food distribution, and youth development. She also served as director of the Seattle Office of Housing. She has received numerous awards in her career, and in 2006 was named one of Washington's Top 50 Women Lawyers.
