King County Executive Dow Constantine praised the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule to cut carbon pollution from the nation’s power plants by 30 percent:

"Confronting climate change is the defining challenge of our generation, and a top priority for my administration.

“King County is a place of ideas and innovators, and we are leading by example. We will expand on our climate agenda with specific commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions countywide. In partnership with our cities, we are charting a specific package of joint commitments that will meet state and local climate targets.

“With one-third of this nation’s greenhouse gases emitted by power plants, President Obama and EPA Administrator McCarthy are demonstrating the strong leadership needed to slow climate change. By setting a new benchmark for carbon pollution, the EPA standards will harness the power of the marketplace and drive innovation and investment in clean technology.

“In King County, we can not only set a pace for the world, we can generate prosperity for our region, turning innovative ideas into products needed around the world. We must build our economic future around these strengths, rather than 19th century technology and the pollution it creates.”
