King County will lower flags to half-staff at its facilities on June 27 in honor of Elson Floyd. The longtime Washington State University president died this week of cancer at the age of 59. Funeral services for Floyd will be held on Saturday in his native North Carolina.

"Our state has lost an iconic leader with the passing of Washington State University President Elson Floyd, whose accomplishments in higher education improved the lives of Washingtonians on both sides of the Cascades," said King County Executive Dow Constantine. "His work to increase access to colleges and universities and to expand our state’s research capacity will yield greater prosperity and better lives far into the future."

At Gov. Jay Inslee's request, King County will lower flags all day Saturday. The U.S. and Pride flags at the King County Administration Building will return to full staff on Sunday for the 41st annual LGBT Pride Parade in downtown Seattle.
