Executive on U.S. District Court ruling on immigration ban: Washington State leads the resistance to this new regime
Summary
King County Executive Dow Constantine released the following statement on the U.S. District Court order on President Trump's immigration ban.
Story
I am grateful U.S. District Judge James Robart upheld the Constitution and our common sense of humanity when he issued a temporary restraining order against President Trump’s immigration ban targeting Muslims.
Since the president announced his executive order, we have seen the costs: families split apart, people loyal to America unable to return home, our prestige in the world diminished, our community rightfully outraged. With the White House occupied by an individual with little interest in the rule of law, our judicial system serves as vital counter-balance to the abuse of executive power. Washington State continues to lead the resistance to this new regime.
I thank Attorney General Ferguson and his staff attorneys for quickly bringing this meritorious action. Judge Robart’s decision today was the latest of what will surely be other examples of courts following the guidance of a force more powerful than any ill-conceived executive order or misguided policy: the U.S. Constitution.
