“This moment marks the passing of one of the giants of state politics. I did not always agree with Slade Gorton on policy, but I held great respect for his commitment to civility and the public good. He was a gentleman and a politician of the old school, and I was honored to be able to work with him on a few projects, including trying to save the Seattle Supersonics, which Slade took on after working to save baseball for Seattle.
