New Customer Service Center opening this week with easier in-person access for King County residents

Summary

King County will open its new Customer Service Center to the public on April 20. The center, located on the second floor of King Street Center in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood, is designed to be a "one-stop shop" for many of the most-requested services offered by King County.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine today welcomed employees, partners, and guests to the new Customer Service Center (CSC) located on the second floor of King Street Center, which is set to open to the public on April 20. Residents will be able to access several highly requested in-person services across a number of the county’s agencies, including:

  • Property tax payments
  • Taxpayer assistance and exemptions
  • Vital Records (birth and death certificates)
  • Vehicle and vessel licensing
  • Marriage licensing
  • Document recording
  • Taxi, TNC, and for-hire driver permits
  • Pet licensing
  • Public records requests
  • Claims

"The new Customer Service Center delivers on our promise to make every customer's experience with King County a positive one," said Executive Constantine. "While the pandemic suspended in-person service, we used this time to re-imagine and improve on how we deliver many of our most-used services for the public, which are now in one convenient location.”

"I want to congratulate Executive Constantine and his team for opening this one-stop customer service center," said Assessor John Wilson. "In terms of the Assessors' office, I am especially pleased that once again seniors and disabled persons will be able to get assistance in filling out applications for property tax exemptions and deferrals in person."

One of the new features at the CSC is the ability for residents to get in line virtually for many services through a platform called QLess. King County agencies using QLess will have links on their web pages at kingcounty.gov where users can make an appointment for their in-person visit. Users can also make appointments at kiosks within the CSC or by downloading the QLess smartphone app available in app stores.

Expanded access for customers who speak languages other than English is also now available at the center. The QLess system will allow customers to make an appointment in any one of more than a dozen languages. Then, when customers arrive, translators are made available at no cost so that they can complete their business with the county.

People can also apply for job openings with King County at the center and get information about other county services and programs.

The new service hub at King Street Center, located at 201 S. Jackson Street, is easily accessible by transit, with several bus routes and a Link Light Rail station nearby. Also nearby is the Sounder commuter rail station and a Seattle Streetcar stop, helping connect these vital in-person services to the regional transit network. A parking garage is available on the lower level of King Street Center. The King County Metro ORCA Pass Sales Office and Metro Lost and Found Office will remain on the first floor.

Regular business hours for the Customer Service Center will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, though individual agencies may occasionally have adjusted hours. Visit kingcounty.gov/CSC for additional information.
