Executive Constantine statement on Monterey Park shooting

Summary

"Gun violence is preventable, solvable, and a choice – one which this country decides to tolerate. I can not abide that choice."

Story

After the shooting overnight in Monterey Park, Calif., Executive Constantine issued the following statement:

"This morning we awoke to the news of another community devastated and forever changed by the horrors of gun violence. While we wait for details to emerge in Monterey Park, and for the shooter to be brought justice, one thing is clear: no person in this nation should have to be afraid their loved ones won’t make it home from a community celebration like last night’s in California.

"Gun violence is preventable, solvable, and a choice – one which this country decides to tolerate. I can not abide that choice. We can, and must do more to stop weapons of war from tearing apart communities. Governments large and small must stand up to the gun lobby and those who value unfettered access to weapons, including military weapons, over the lives of the innocent. Let us be the generation that puts an end to the warped priorities and policies that allow outrages like Monterey Park to happen again and again."
