Disposal for Businesses
Accepted at hazardous waste collection sites - eligible businesses only
Nitric acid over 75% strength is not accepted. Acids with a pH of two or less or that have come into contact with metals are accepted at hazardous waste collection sites (eligible businesses only).
If your waste acid is not contaminated with other wastes, you can treat it to raise the pH and then dispose of it to the sanitary sewer. Never put acids, even if treated, into a septic system.
Your business may be eligible to receive no-fee hazardous waste disposal up to four times a year if you are a Small Quantity Generator (SQG).
This program is for King County businesses that generate less than 220 lbs of hazardous waste monthly and less than 2.2 lbs of certain Extremely Hazardous Wastes, and are Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity of Generators under Washington State Department of Ecology Dangerous Waste Regulations (WAC 173-303).
