Learn how to change your residential or mailing address on your voter registration.

You can update your residential or mailing address online or by mail up to 8 days before an election or in-person through Election day. If you mail a registration update, it must be received, not postmarked, by the 8 day deadline.

What if I miss the deadline for this election?

You can still vote, contact King County Elections to get a ballot. Make sure to update your registration before the next election.

Moving within King County

You can update your address online, by email, over the phone, by mail, or in-person.  

Online

You can change your address online, 24 hours a day, at the Washington Secretary of State's registration website. You will need to make the change online at least 8 days in advance of the next election. 

To make address changes online, you will need either a:

  • current Washington State driver license, or
  • current Washington State ID card

If you do not have either of these, you can still change your address by mail or in-person.

Email

Email our office with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Date of birth
  • Old residential and mailing address
  • New residential and mailing address

You will need to make the change online at least 8 days in advance of the next election.

Phone

Call our office at 206-296-8683 during business hours. You will need to make the change online at least 8 days in advance of the next election.

By mail

Download and print a voter registration form from the Secretary of State. Forms are available in many languages. We need to receive the address change at least 8 days in advance of the next election so plan to mail it in early.

You can also change your address in-person at a vote center or at one of our community events.

Moving to another county in Washington

There are three ways to register to vote with your new county.

Online

Update your information online, 24-hours a day at the Secretary of State’s website. You will need one of the following:

  • A current Washington State driver license
  • A current Washington State ID card

Mail

Download and print a voter registration form and mail it to your new county's elections office. Forms are available in many languages.
