Procedures for setting fee amounts

The fees on this page are authorized by King County Code (KCC) 4A.750.100. The amount of each fee is maintained on this webpage and may be changed in accordance with KCC 6.65.050 and KCC 6.65.470.

The fees are set at a dollar amount budgeted to cover the anticipated costs of the regulatory functions established in KCC Chapter 6.64 and Chapter 6.65. If the amount of a fee no longer aligns with the cost of regulatory functions, then the fee will be changed. Some fee amounts are based on the actual cost charged to King County by a third-party that provides services related to the licensing process, such as the cost of obtaining a background check.

New fee types require a County Council ordinance. Changes to fee amounts require public notice.

If the County proposes a change to the fees, notice will be given at least 30 days in advance via a notification letter to the King County Council as required by K.C.C. 6.65.470. Notice will also be given to persons who have requested advanced notice of fee setting, to all existing fee payers, and notice will be published in the Seattle Times. The notice will include the reason and methodology used to determine the proposed new fee amount.

Public comments or questions about proposed fees or the currently adopted fees can be emailed to FAST@kingcounty.gov.
