Council approves Executive's historic proposal to invest $28 million in 100 regional cultural facilities
King County Executive Dow Constantine signed legislation to enact "Building for Culture," the largest one-time investment King County has made to build new cultural facilities, as well as expand, preserve, and improve existing ones. More than 100 arts and cultural organizations will share $28 million in capital improvement grant funds financed by bonds backed by a portion of the County's hotel/motel tax revenues.

The transaction between King County and Washington State Convention Center will secure a critical parcel needed to construct the new center's Addition. It will also secure an ongoing revenue stream to help support King County Metro service for 30 years.

The magazine honors projects that excel at meeting challenges and positively impact its region. The new bridge carries 20,000 vehicles and nearly 3,000 heavy-duty trucks each day as well as an estimated 10 million tons of freight each year.

Executive declares victory for Best Starts for Kids, the nation's most comprehensive approach to childhood development
Best Starts for Kids is a levy proposed by Executive Constantine to invest in prevention and early intervention so that more children and youth in King County reach adulthood healthy and ready to succeed. It will be the most comprehensive approach to childhood development in the nation, starting with prenatal support, sustaining the gain through teenage years, and investing in safe, healthy communities that reinforce progress.
