Balducci applauds adoption of new 3-year Metro Transit employee contract

Sept. 12, 2023

King County Councilmember and Sound Transit Board System Expansion Committee Chair Claudia Balducci released the following statement Tuesday following the King County Council’s passage of the ordinance that approves and adopts a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between King County and Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 587 (Metro Transit Department) representing the approximately 3,700 employees in the Metro Transit Department:

“Metro buses are a lifeline to so many across King County. It’s essential we attract and retain excellent employees to operate and maintain the county transit system to keep our cities and towns livable, healthy and sustainable. This contract sets Metro transit up to continue rebuilding our bus and rail service to the levels our public needs and expects, although there is more work to do. A strong partnership between King County, the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 587 and the approximately 3,700 employees represented in this collective bargaining agreement is critical to all our efforts. That’s why I’m so pleased to have voted with my colleagues on the King County Council today to ratify a fair and thoughtful three-year contract.”
