Picnic shelters
King County Parks offers several sizes of shelters with different seating and standing capacities. Reservations are required to guarantee usage. Electricity, sinks, running water, and barbecue grills are available in certain shelters.
How to Book
When to Schedule:
Groups of 35 or more are required to book a picnic shelter per King County Code Chapter 7.12.030 Rules for Use of Facilities. Shelters may be booked up to 365 days in advance and no less than 7 days in advance for small, private use. Larger events, events with catering, bounce houses, additional infrastructure, or public events required to submit an application no less than 30 days in advance.
Shelters are available for reservations between April 1 and October 31. One shelter is available to reserve in the off-season: Tolt MacDonald Barn.
Time Options:
- AM Half Day is 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
- PM Half Day is 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm (dusk if earlier)
- Full Day is 9:00 am – 8:00 pm (dusk if earlier)
During times of year when sunset is earlier, only the morning time is available for reservations. All setup, cleanup, delivery, and removal must be completed during permitted hours.
What is Included:
Picnic shelter reservations include the shelter, the amenities listed, and 15’ of area around the shelter, unless additional space has been approved. Any additional space, such as athletic fields, open grass space, etc. require an additional reservation fee. Setup and cleanup of your picnic is not included.
Book or Apply for Permit:
If event has less than 50 people and is a simple picnic gathering without the below-mentioned plans, then it may be reserved online.
If event includes any of the following, then a Picnic Event Application must be submitted to the Regional Scheduling Office at regional.scheduling@kingcounty.gov. Additional Fees may apply for these events.
- Over 50 people
- Infrastructure being brought in (tables, chairs, tents, stages, etc.)
- Bounce house or inflatable request
- Amplified sound request
- Catering or other vendors
- Sales of tickets, food, or items
- Advertised and open to the public (word of mouth, media advertising, posting of event flyers, etc.)
- Weddings or other special events outside normal use
